An absolutely brilliant film based on the novel by Witi Ihimaera... For those of u who have seen it im sure will agree with me that this film was moving....

Base around the moari legend of Paikea the whale rider....Tradition has it that in every tribe, there is a chief or leader, the one who looks after the iwi (people) and the title is passed down from father to first born son, from generation to generation.... So when a girl is born tradition is broken.... Paikea struggles in a world in of old versus new, where the ancient ways and tradition is still very much a part of everyday life.....

Koro (pakeas Grand father) the chief, a man fighting to preserve the old ways in the face of change must find his next successor, the one to bring his iwi out of the slump or misfortune they currently find themselves in.... Paikea must challenge her grand father and years of tradition to find her true place as the "one" and fufill her destiny.... A contemporary story of love, rejection and triumph...

This film has won many awards around the world, and is a personal favourite of mine due to the authenticy of the film, being moari myself i can safetly say that in every maori family you will come across characters just like those portrayed in the film, along with beautiful scenery and a "back to basics" feel im sure u too will love Whale rider....
THis is deeply moving and will have u in tears at the beauty an innocence of this little girl, and my home land which i have come to know and love...
